Manx Utilities has thanked residents for their patience, as it offered up very little in its latest sewage works update.

Residents of Peel, Laxey and their surrounding areas were eagerly awaiting the news but like a seemingly never ending transfer saga, the deals still aren’t quite finalised.

We reported earlier this week that Garff Commissioners was hoping this week’s update would provide ‘more detailed information regarding locations and infrastructure’ after what it said were ‘many months in which details of the plans have been withheld by MU due to the sensitivities of the ongoing land negotiations’.

In its latest update Manx Utilities has said that ending the dumping of raw sewage into the sea off Garff ‘remains a priority’.

It added: ‘We appreciate the public’s patience whilst we negotiate through this complex delivery process; whilst being respectful of the land owners involved.

‘We understand the frustration of what appears to be minimal progress however a great deal of design work is being undertaken in parallel to the land acquisition process.  We therefore remain committed on completing the regional sewage treatment strategy for our island.’

Out west, the MUA said that ‘formalities are progressing well and we are working towards the conditional contract for the acquisition of land required for the treatment works to be finalised by the end of the month’.

It added: ‘This will allow the geotechnical investigations to be completed and the design to be further progressed. Due to adverse weather disrupting travel, the design team were unable to meet with Peel Town Commissioners in December, as planned.  The meeting is to be rearranged shortly.’
