Two Years to Monitor Proposed Turbine Sites
The virtual mast device (SODAR) has been installed in the south of the island first.
Manx Utilities’ energy transition consultants will take two years to monitor windspeed and background noise at it two proposed windfarm sites.
Wardell-Armstrong is progressing with installing a wind data device at the two Island locations identified as having potential for an onshore windfarm.
It said that the virtual mast device (SODAR) has been installed in the south of the island first.
After spending a year at Earystane, the machine will then be moved to the Sulby and Druidale site.
This latest development has drawn criticism from both supporters and opponents of the development of a windfarm either because of fears that with two years worth of data the 2026 target date will be missed or because of the beeping noise the SODAR machine is making.
