Manx Missile Mark Cavendish has won his final race at the Giro d’Italia.

Cav sprinted home to claim his 17th Giro overall stage win in Rome.

The win, the first of the season for Cav, maintained his record of winning at least one stage in each of the seven editions of the Giro he has raced and brings his tally to 54 stage wins across cycling’s three Grand Tours.

Speaking after the win, Cav said: ‘I’m super happy, it’s a long hard slog to get here at the end of the Giro  but we’ve felt close a couple of times before and my boys did incredible and my friends did incredible, just had some great friends today.

‘It’s pretty emotional to be fair.’

Up next, Le Tour!
