Liam Doyle has announced his retirement from professional football after more than 170 appearances in America.

The 30-year-old former St George’s and St Mary’s defender most recently played for LA Galaxy II in the USL Championship.

He said: ‘When coming to the USA in 2012 to play collegiate football, never could I have imagined that I would go onto make over 170 professional appearances.

‘Football truly is the best job in the world and something that I will dearly miss. I have met some unbelievable people along the way from teammates to coaches and front office staff. The relationships are what make the journey and the memories so special. I owe so much to my family for their support throughout the years. My wife Brittany and my parents for providing their love and support from day one.’
