The Manx Hockey Association has said it encourages all hockey clubs to continue with planned training, pre-season friendlies and other hockey activities as they see fit this week.

While football postponed its fixtures this last week after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, hockey, alongside rugby, did continue with its planned fixtures.

For the rest of this week, the MHA has encouraged the use of black armbands or black ribbons, and a two minute silence, before the activity commences as a mark of respect, including before next weekend’s fixtures, which will go ahead as planned.

However, due to the state funeral for the Lord of Mann, indoor hockey games scheduled for Monday September 19 will be rescheduled to another date.

Kim Carney said: ‘On behalf of the Manx Hockey Association and the Manx hockey community, we are deeply saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann, and offer our sincerest condolences to the whole Royal Family.

‘With gratitude for your tireless efforts over decades of public service and for all you have given to communities in the Isle of Man and across the world.’
