Instilling Confidence and Winning Medals
Not only do they have a really impressive set up, they are helping to instill confidence in their junior members
When Conrad Roberts began Gracie Barra Isle of Man in his garage he couldn’t have known that he would be embarking on a journey that would lead to taking a team of juniors to a European Championships.
But now, just six years on from that start, the club has a high quality base in Hills Meadow and has grown to over 270 members.
He said: ‘I set it up to really for two reasons. One was I really wanted to compete and there wasn’t much of that going on and because I wanted to train my kids, and ultimately we started off in my garage.’
That journey has led to Gracie Barra having British and European champions in adult classes and will see it take a squad of juniors to Dublin for the European Kids IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
As our video shows, the club is well run and the kids we spoke to appreciate it not only for the skills it has given them, but for being a safe and welcoming environment and somewhere that personal growth is the core message they are picking up.
