Ravens Downed by Saturday Knight Fever

A late, late Lee Knight goal left FC Isle of Man stunned last night as the Ravens went down 0-1 to Cheadle Town.

Defeat leaves the Ravens in ninth, six points off the play-off spots. 

The first half was not the most exciting 45 minutes of football you’ll see, with. both sides largely feeling each other out. 

If there was one big talking point to mull off with the half-time cups of tea it would be whether Al Maitland got away with one when he appeared to pull back the visiting Jack McConnell.

The second half picked up where the first left off and it took until the hour mark for the game to finally burst into life as a poor back pass from Callum Sherry sent Cheadle’s Jordan Lazewbury off at goal, but Ben Wilkinson kept himself big and made a smart stop from Lazenby.

However, Jacob Crook came closest to finding a goal as he picked up the ball just inside Cheadle’s half and unleashed a lightning bolt of an effort from distance which flashed past the post.

A good team move by Cheadle led to Wilkinson being called on again to make a quality save as one of the few chances came and went.

Paul Jones’ side also struggled to craft many clear sights of goal, the one standout effort being when Sean Doyle was played in by Mikey Williams, only to see his effort well saved by the Cheadle keeper Jordan Latham who pushed it up and over the bar.

With the game seemingly heading for a stalemate, good work from substitute Junior Omorogbe (who wears a nice suit, if you know, you know) won his side a corner despite pressure from the Ravens’ back four. 

That corner was half-cleared and when a big cross was swung back in, Knight was there at the back post to head the ball up onto the bar and as it came back down, the ball crossed the line cueing wild celebrations on the away bench and Knight running half the length of the pitch taunting the home fans on the far side of the Bowl.

The Ravens tried to muster a response, but the game was lost
