Match Reports
Premiership
Simcocks Red 36 v 20 Ballasalla A
The first few minutes of this game seemed promising for both teams, going goal for goal with great
drives at both attacking ends. However, Natalie Swales soon put an end to that, cutting out
Ballasalla’s option of the high pass into the shooter and gaining possession to put Simcocks in the
lead by 4 goals at quarter time.
With Amaline Batty and Ruby Watterson settling comfortably into their shots, there was no stopping Simcocks and they began to run away with the game leading 18-9 at half time. With Ballasalla in danger of not even gaining a point from the game, their defence had to step up in the third quarter. Rachel Quayle and Ashley Hall tried to limit the control that Rachel Johnstone was exerting around the circle edge, and the Ballasalla Goal Keeper, Amy Gelling, was able to pick up a few intercepts to slow down the Simcocks scoring rate.
The final quarter saw the Simcocks side move ahead again and take the game 36-20. Player of the Match was awarded to Amaline Batty with a steady performance at Goal Attack for Simcocks Red.
Championship
Ramsey Black 30 v 26 Thompson 2
Ramsey Blacks started out strong, with some excellent shooting from GA, Ariana
Kerruish and GS, Elly-Jane Crellin. Ending the quarter 9-5 to Ramsey.
Thompson came out strong in the second quarter, with some good through court
defence and plenty of turnover ball. Thompson’s GS Amelie Harding got her eye in
and Thompson won the second quarter 6 goals to Ramsey’s 5, closing the gap to
11-14 to Ramsey.
Thompson continued to put on the pressure going into the third quarter forcing
more turnover ball, however Thompson struggled to convert the opportunities given
whereas the Ramsey shooters just didn’t miss and were well supported by C, Nicole
Pressley and WA, Chloe Ryles throughout the game. Thompson again won the third
quarter, closing the gap to 17-19 to Ramsey.
There was everything to play for in the final quarter, Thompson’s midcourt worked
hard to win ball but with some unforced errors Ramsey were able to add to their
score, winning the final quarter and the game 30-26. POTM went to Ramsey’s Chloe Ryles.
Division 1
Castletown Jets 19 v 33 Manx Gems Sapphires
The game started quite slowly but some good positioning and shooting from Castletown
June Fearnley (GA) and Charlie Corrie (GS) made Gems Kiree Corkish (GD) and Ellie
Brovinanova (GK) step up their defensive play with the first quarter finished 6-6.
Second quarter and Ellie Treanor (C) and Emily Brown (WA) for Gems worked tirelessly to get the
ball moving down the court to their shooters. The 2nd quarter saw Gems take the lead
17-12.
The third quarter saw Jess Hawkins (GD) makesome crucial turnovers. The fast and frantic play in the third quarter led to some sloppy play from both sides however, Gems’ attack gained the edge with Abi Campbell (WA)making some excellent feedsinto the shootersPoppy Brown (GS) and Sienna Thatcher (GA) who found their form and were sinking some fantastic shots. Erin Chappel (GD) for Castletown was impressive in defence with plenty of interceptions but Gems were able to extending their lead to 24-16.
Final quarter and Gems dominated but Casteltown were not giving up easily and kept up the
pressure with Lucy Smith (C) Kate Potts (WA) having a great game but Gems were too strong
in the final quarter which resulted in the final score of 33-19 to Manx Gems Sapphires with POTM going to Sienna Thatcher (Manx Gems).
Division 2
Castletown Vikings 59 v 3 Ramsey Jets
The Castletown Vikings got off to a strong start in the first quarter whilst Ramsey
Jets were finding their feet. Jets had Anya playing her first match as GK and Immy
playing her first as WD, both played really well throughout. Strong shooting from
Vikings’ players Sophie (GA) and Jess (GS) saw the first quarter end with Vikings
leading 17-1.
The second quarter saw another couple of changes for the Jets with Sarah playing
her first game as GS and Kirsty’s first as GA. Vikings’ took advantage of these
changes, ending the quarter 34-1.
No position changes in the third quarter, as Jets settled in to their positions the
effort was apparent, with strong passes and interceptions. Jets with Sarah as GS,
were able to secure another goal ending the third quarter 47-2.
The fourth quarter was dominated by the Vikings, still a fantastic effort being put in
by Jets. Vikings player Ellie (GK) and Olivia (GD) were making Jets’ attackers work
for it with tight marking and strong interceptions. Despite this, Jets were able to add
another goal with a final result of 59-3.
Overall a great game, Vikings had very strong mid court players, which was pivotal
in securing their win. Jets put up a really good fight and worked well as a team
despite numerous players in positions they don’t normally play. POTM went to Castletown’s Sophie Bateson.
