The Manx Special Olympics Team has made a strong start to the World Games in Berlin.

Athletes are representing the island in a range of sports and have had some time to do some sightseeing before competing.

First up was the bowling team, made up of Sean Roberts, Laura Oram, Andrew McGeehan and Elizabeth Tinkler, who secured a fourth place finish.

Tomas Dawe put in a brilliant effort in the final of the 200m sprint to secure a bronze medal, beating the Slovenian athlete by just 0.26 seconds to clinch third. Special Olympics Isle of Man shared this video him collecting his medal.

Also finishing strong on the opening day was Harvey Shimmin, who claimed a seventh place ribbon in a really competitive 15KM road race which saw just two minutes separating the field behind breakaway winner Markus Maendli of Switzerland.
