Rennie Ruled Out of Blackpool Bout

A shoulder injury has ruled Manx boxer Mathew Rennie out of his planned fight in Blackpool next weekend.

Rennie was due to fight on May 13, but tweeted to say he has had to pull out.

Despite this setback, the unbeaten fighter is upbeat and aiming to bounce back in style later this year.

He told Gef: ‘I sustained an injury to my shoulder “ACJ” to be specific I tried battling on through training for a few weeks but got to the point where I was just doing more damage so myself and team thought it would be the right decision to pull out off the fight as didn’t want to risk more damage.

‘I’m already on the mend thanks to optimal performance who have given me a rehab programme to follow over here in Liverpool.’

Rennie said that despite this, he hopes to be back punching within the next couple of weeks and is ‘looking to push straight into a title fight after summer to end the year on a high and make up for lost time’.

He added: ‘Hate letting friends and family down who were all looking forward to the fight but everyone has been supportive and understanding and off course still got the continued backing from my sponsors.’
