Weekend Sports Preview

Manx Hockey Association’s men’s and women’s leagues resume on Saturday after a mini hiatus for the half-term break.

There’s also a full programme of rugby and football taking place around the island on the same day.

In the latter, Corinthians take on Braddan in the FA Cup while Peel will hope to continue their Premier League title charge when they travel to rivals St George’s.

Later in the day, FC Isle of Man are back in action on home soil when they entertain Winsford United at the Bowl, kicking off at 6pm.

In rugby, Douglas host Winnington Park at Port-e-Chee, while there’s a double-header at Ballafletcher where both Vagabonds men and women face Hoylake and Halifax respectively.

There is also one Manx Trophy match on the fixture list, with Ramsey Reds taking on Western Vikings and Eastern Barbarians at Mooragh Park.

Athletics-wise, there’s a strong entry for the 20-mile road running race this Sunday over the NSC perimeter roadway.

Hosted by Isle of Man Veteran Athletes’ Club, the event will start at 9.30am with registration closing at 9am. Amongst the entrants are 2022 Commonwealth Games competitor Ollie Lockley who will be one of the favourites for victory.

Also on Sunday, Isle of Man Netball’s senior league programme will get back underway after the half-term break at the NSC and Bemahague.
