The Manxman and the Spaceman
Manxman left South Korea on May 13
The Steam Packet’s new flagship Manxman has reached the next stop on her way home.
Manxman is sailing from South Korea to British waters before entering the Steam Packet’s fleet later this summer.
Having left on May 13, Manxman and her crew have visited Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and passed by India.
During the trip, Captain Andy Atkinson is sharing his captain’s log detailing the trip and this week’s update has thrown up some interesting bits of information, our personal favourite is that Manxman was closer to astronauts than anyone standing on land.

Wednesday May 31: ‘We put our clocks back again by half an hour this morning. At around 04:00 this morning ship’s time (22:30 IOM time) Manxman was approximately 350Nm to the nearest point of land (half way between Sri Lanka and Indonesia).
‘With the expected routes between each of the next ports this means that this was the furthest point from land that Manxman will be on the delivery voyage. It also means that given Manxman’s expected future sailing schedule this would have been the furthest point form land that Manxman will ever be in the ship’s lifetime. Apart from one or two ships around us at the time, the next closest humans would be those orbiting the earth in the International Space station, at around 220Nm above us.’
