Police Begin Winter Car Checks

The roads policing cops stopped 20 cars on their first day of winter roadside checks.

The annual campaign sees police at various points around the island to check cars are roadworthy for winter.

Beginning at the grand stand, the police said: ‘In just a few hours this morning, officers from the Roads Policing Unit and Douglas purple team had cause to stop over 20 vehicles for various lighting & tyre defects. With the wintry weather fast approaching, now would be a good time to check over those brake lights, headlights, tyres etc.

‘We will be out in force during this operation in company with officers from Customs and Excise as well as vehicle examiners.’
