Ben To The Rescue (Once Again!)

How many times have we said it over the years?

The girl of our hearts is once again being prepared to undertake sailings in line with contingency planning.

It’s after the Steam Packet confirmed that smoke detected in a machinery space on board the Manxman led to the cancellation of Tuesday morning’s sailing to Heysham.

The incident happened during the vessel’s 02:15 crossing from Heysham to Douglas.

Investigations are underway and a further update is expected at 4pm.

In a statement at 1pm, a spokesperson for SPC said: ‘The crew and engineers are continuing to investigate the technical issue that led to the cancellation of this morning’s 8.45am sailing to Heysham, and its 2.15pm return.

‘The Company’s onboard engineering team is in dialogue with the equipment manufacturers to resolve the issue and hopes to be in a position to undertake testing this afternoon.

‘In the meantime, reserve vessel Ben-my-Chree is being prepared to undertake sailings in line with contingency planning.

‘Customers are thanked once again for the patience and understanding.’
