Manannan Damaged in Rough Seas
Delays are being experienced on today’s sailings.
Steam Packet engineers have worked through the night to repair damage the Manannan sustained during yesterday’s rough weather.
The fast craft travelled to Liverpool where passengers were unable to get off for a while due to the high winds in the Mersey.
However, the company said the damage was sustained on the way back to the island.
A spokesperson said: ‘The damage sustained was to the vehicle deck and there were engine problems. These have been successfully repaired and tested overnight, and is a testament to our engineering team.
‘Due to the disruption to yesterday’s sailings and overnight works, we are working today to accommodate rescheduled sailings. We’d like to thank our staff for their continued hard work, and to our passengers for their patience and understanding.’
Today’s Belfast sailing, which was supposed to leave at 7am, left at 8.27am, with the return journey due to leave Northern Ireland at 12.30pm.
This afternoon’s Liverpool sailing is now due to leave Douglas at 4.30pm, with the return leaving Merseyside at 8.45pm. For the latest info, see the Steam Packet’s website.
Crews have been praised on social media by passengers who were frustrated by the delay in disembarking at Liverpool but praised the professionalism of the crew to ensure the safety of everyone onboard.
