Transport Festival Gets Underway

This year’s Summer Transport Festival began with a typical dose of Manx weather this weekend.

A rather wet morning welcomed people to Peel to see Fenella return to what was the original end of the line for the railway when it opened 150 years ago.

Conditions if anything worsened as the Lieutenant Governor, Sir John Lorimer, inspected the former internment camp’s guards and gave a quick talk on the history Knockaloe and the engine, Caledonia that served it.

Throughout the day, buses ran between Peel and Patrick to carry visitors up to see both the engine and the Visitor’s Centre.

Down south, a special service led by Loch and the out of steam Fenella. Whilst in Port Erin, the engines joined their sister locomotives for a display of the Beyer Peacock engines including Loch, Mona, Peveril, Fenella and Kissack.
