UK ATC Fault Causes Havoc

Scores of travellers are waiting for alternative travel arrangements after an ATC failure in the UK left a dozen flights in and out of Ronaldsway cancelled.

Beyond the issue of islanders trying to get home from a Bank Holiday break, others find themselves stranded across Europe as hundreds of flights were delayed or cancelled.

One reader said that having originally been expecting a long delay, her flight from Spain has now been cancelled and last night they were still unsure when they would be able to get a flight back to the UK.

By the end of the day, Ronaldsway, which was not hit directly by the fault, was reporting that flights to and from Bristol, Liverpool, Belfast, Manchester, Heathrow and Edinburgh had all been cancelled.

Loganair was offering passengers the chance to switch to alternative flights for free whether or not they had been cancelled. While easyJet said that while the issue was ‘outside of our control, we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and to reassure customers that we are doing everything possible to minimise the impact of the disruption’.
