The TT’s race programme gets under way tomorrow and you may be wondering who to support. Well the team at Gef may just have the answer…
The casual TT fans among you might be struggling to pick which of the gladiators of road racing to throw your support behind in this week’s newly lengthened race programme.
Fear not, four pints in at the Trackside the other night, the Gef thinktank came up with a solution to help even the most uneducated of TT observers pick a favourite.
After the racing, one of the other big draws for the casual fan is the increased number of opportunities to nip out for a cheeky tipple or three.
Now to how your love for the latter pastime, might help you become a TT super fan.
What’s your favourite pint? Your choice may help you pick out a rider to follow from the paddock. Here’s our nonsensical reasoning as to why.
Guinness
Now it would be obvious to link the rider with ‘Guinness’ in his name to the world-renowned stout. However, we’re going to take you in a slightly different direction here.
Dark, brooding, mysterious, [Northern] Irish. If you like a drop of the black stuff, Michael Dunlop is the man for you. Both are world beaters on their day and not just liked but loved by their hardcore following.
Madri
The new-kid on the block in the world of lagers [I can hear the booze aficionados shouting ‘It’s a re-badged Coors you fool’] has made a rapid rise to the top. With its funky glass, slick logo and solid all-round taste, in many respects it mirrors Davey Todd, the man many are tipping to add to his sole TT podium appearance this week.
Carling
Britain’s most drunk lager. Perhaps past its peak, but it is still a firm favourite in pubs across the land and, on its day, can hit the spot with the best of them.

Okell’s
A firm favourite. Steady eddy. Loved by a nation. Smooth as the Ben-my-Chree in July.

Heineken
Despite being synonymous with Iron Maiden’s home brew Tropper, the current lap outright lap record holder Peter Hickman could be compared to the Dutch brewing behemoth.
Crisp, slick and strong across the board, the lager’s historic tag line ‘Refreshers the parts other beers cannot reach’ can also be butchered to read ‘Reaches the parts other riders cannot reach’ to signify his record-breaking exploits.
Desperado
A ‘lively’ little number that has captured the hearts and livers of the majority of us at one time or another. A strong and affable beer translates into a strong and affable rider in Dean Harrison, a man that should feature at the top of the charts this week with or without a lime wedge.
BrewDog Punk IPA
The Scottish tinkers made a slightly niche drink, IPA, mainstream and have become a real tour de force in the brewing industry overall.
Very similar to the Birchall brothers, who have helped promote the sidecar class with a series of breathtaking and dominant displays around the Mountain Course.
Bushy’s
Reliable and forever connected with the TT. Has to be Manx sidecar legend Dave Molyneux doesn’t it?
