Gef’s Guide to the TT Comedown: How to Cope When the Island Goes Quiet Again

Published

on

Well, that’s that then. Another TT done.

A fortnight of speed, chaos, questionable decisions, too many drinks, and spending money like it wasn’t real.

The weather tried its best to ruin the party, but the spirit never died. And now? Now we’ve got the TT Blues.

The island has ALREADY returned to its usual quiet, eerie self and honestly, it feels like breaking up with someone who had a superbike and knew how to throw a party.

But don’t worry, Gef’s got your back. Here’s some top tips to get through this cruel, post-TT limbo:

1. Stop Watching the Highlights

I know, I know. Chris Pritchard’s daily round-up videos were basically my alarm clock as well.

But watching them back now? It’s emotional self-harm.

I’ve just accidentally rewatched the Crowe brothers fly past Brandywell just from my camera roll and I’m in pain.

Do yourself a favour – block it like an ex. You don’t need that kind of temptation. You lived it. Let it go.

2. See Your Mates Anyway

You’ve gone from raving at Bushy’s to Rocket Max and being there everyday for the final Jesus is a Friend of Mine, to sitting in the office staring blankly at Excel. Horrendous.

But don’t go full hermit. Grab a pint. Play pool. SPEAK TO YOUR FRIENDS. Stand in the rain in a pub garden and pretend it’s still race week.

It’s not 10 past 9 in the hedge with a crate of Stella, but it helps.

3. Cling to Summer Hope

The good weather might come back (don’t quote me).

There’s no Bushy’s tent or Mann Made Festival brisket to devour, but plenty of class Manx businesses need your custom.

Plan a staycation. Go paddleboarding. But don’t just sit there. Do something!

You will feel joy again. Probably around Classic TT/Manx Grand Prix time.
