Racer Dies Months After TT Crash
Lavorel was injured in a crash on Saturday, June 4.
Olivier Lavorel, the sidecar passenger injured in this year’s TT, has sadly died in hospital in France.
Mr Lavorel was initially declared dead following the crash on Quarterbridge Road before organisers realised it was the driver, Cesar Chanal, who died in the crash on Saturday, June 4.
Organisers have said: ‘The Isle of Man TT Races is deeply saddened to today learn of the passing of Olivier Lavorel.
‘Olivier, from Sillingy, France, was competing at the Isle of Man TT Races for the first time in 2022 alongside his team mate and driver, César Chanel. Tragically, an incident at Ago’s Leap on the opening lap of the first Sidecar Race of TT 2022 on Saturday June 4 claimed the life of César, and Olivier sustained serious injuries.
‘We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Olivier’s family, loved ones, and friends at this devastating time.’
It was reported in June, when he was receiving treatment in hospital in Liverpool, that Mr Lavorel’s condition had stabilised.
He was later transferred back to his home country for further treatment.
The sad death of Mr Lavorel takes the total number of deaths at this year’s TT to six.
As well as Mr Lavorel and Mr Chanal, riders Mark Purslow and Davy Morgan were killed in separate crashes, while father and son sidecar team Roger and Bradley Stockton died on Senior Race Day, with their crash happening within metres of the crash site of the Frenchmen.
