Amber Weather Warning Issued for Heavy Rain Tonight

The Met Office has slapped an amber warning on the island from midnight until 10am tomorrow (Tuesday), with a hefty band of rain expected to dump 20–30mm across most areas, and up to 45mm over the hills.

Forecasters say the worst of it could fall between 3am and 6am, meaning plenty of standing water and a messy commute for anyone heading out early. Rivers are also likely to rise quickly after what’s already been a very soggy spell.

It follows Sunday’s downpours, which left several roads flooded.

Police urged people to travel only if necessary, with St Mark’s Road, Ballasalla, and the Ballamodha Straight among the worst affected.

Patrick Road in St John’s is closed until noon today after a fallen tree blocked the route.

In short: keep the wellies handy, drive with care, and maybe set the alarm a bit earlier tomorrow.
