Can We Expect Anymore Snow?

Published

The Isle of Man is still feeling a bit slippery after Sunday and Monday’s snow, with some roads, especially in residential estates, still a proper ice rink.

Monday was a bit chaotic for many, with all schools closed and Ronaldsway Airport’s runway shut as travel across the island proved tricky.

Department of Infrastructure (DoI) crews were out gritting roads day and night to keep things moving, despite what the naysayers might tell you.

Today (Tuesday), things are a bit more back to normal, and forecasters say we’re unlikely to see any proper snow again this week.

Stuart Davison, forecaster at Ronaldsway Met Office, told Gef today: ‘We’re not really expecting any significant snow, really, for the rest of the week.

‘There might be a little bit over the hills overnight tonight, possibly a few showers coming through, but I think that will only be over the hills.

‘I don’t think there’s going to be anything for low levels.’

He added that while a potential storm is brewing for southern parts of the UK later in the week, including Wales, central England and southern England, the Isle of Man is expected to dodge the worst of it.

‘Of course we’re watching it carefully and keeping an eye on things and things changing. But we update the five day forecast every day, every morning.

‘So currently… it looks as if it’s going to be southern parts of Britain that’s going to be affected by the potential storm for Friday.’

Even though the worst of the snow is done, drivers are still being urged to take care on icy stretches, especially in estates and on smaller roads.

The Met Office will keep an eye on conditions and update the forecast daily, so check before you set out!
