Snow Much Thanks

While plenty of kids have been enjoying an unexpected day off school, sledging down hills and making the most of the snow, there’s a whole army of people who’ve been quietly getting on with the hard work of keeping the island moving.

Through the night and into today, teams from the Department of Infrastructure (DoI) have been out gritting roads and clearing routes in tough, icy conditions (despite what the Facebook comments might make you believe). Some roads remain treacherous, but without their efforts, things could have been far worse.

A huge thank you also must go to the Civil Defence, who were out late last night gritting and helping out around Douglas and Onchan, and back at it early this morning ferrying urgent and essential workers to where they needed to be.

It’s the kind of work that rarely makes headlines, but makes a massive difference.

And let’s not forget the bus drivers, who returned to the roads as soon as it was safe to do so, helping people get to work, hospital appointments and essential services.

And I suppose, anyone who’s helped anyone today. While we’re not through the icy roads, with a fresh weather warning in place until midday tomorrow, we thought it be best to show our appreciation now.
