Schools Shut, Airport Closed and Some Buses Back on the Move

It’s been another slippery start across the island this morning, with snow and icy conditions continuing to cause disruption to schools, travel and transport services.

Here’s the latest as of this morning:

Schools

Schools across the Isle of Man will remain closed this morning due to hazardous conditions, with buses unable to operate safely.

The decision will be reviewed at 10.30am, with the potential for schools to reopen at 12.30pm.

However, the government has warned that no school meal service will be available if schools do reopen this afternoon.

While some individual schools and areas may be accessible, officials say the safety of pupils and staff travelling to and from school across the Island remains the top priority.

A gritting plan is in place, but school buses are currently not running.

Airport

The Isle of Man Airport will remain closed due to snow on the runway, despite weather conditions not being expected to worsen.

Residents travelling off-Island under the Patient Transfer Service are being urged to familiarise themselves with their Travel Warrant, which includes important contact details in the event of disruption.

Liverpool Airport is also currently closed, adding to wider travel difficulties.

Roads

Temperatures are expected to remain low throughout the day, but all main roads remain open.

Drivers are being urged to take extra care, drive to the conditions and allow additional time for journeys.

Road crews are continuing to clear housing estates and bus routes throughout the morning.

Hospital

The hospital remains operational, and patients will still be seen today — but only if it is safe to travel.

Those scheduled for essential renal or chemotherapy treatment should still attend if possible. Anyone unable to travel safely is asked to contact the hospital directly.

Buses – Latest

There’s finally some movement on the buses.

Bus Vannin routes 3 and 5 are now running, after all services were suspended earlier this morning.

The Department of Infrastructure has treated roads, allowing the two routes to resume.

Bus Vannin says updates on other services will be issued as soon as possible, and has apologised for the update being later than planned.
