Storm Chandra Hits

Published

on

Storm Chandra has well and truly made itself at home this morning, with a number of roads across the Island shut thanks to fallen trees and strong winds.

The Department of Infrastructure has urged commuters to ‘plan their journeys accordingly’ as crews work in tricky conditions to clear routes.

Roads currently closed include:

  • Glen Helen – from Poortown Road junction to Douglas Road Corner
  •  Lezayre Road – from Ramsey to Ginger Hall
  •  Main Road, Ballaugh – Bishops Court
  •  Mountain Road – Ramsey to Creg-ny-Baa
  •  Switchback Road – St John’s
  • Mona Drive – Douglas

A yellow weather warning for severe gales and rain remains in place until midday, so it’s very much a ‘leave early, drive carefully’ kind of morning.

Buses, boats and planes are also feeling the effects, with diversions, cancellations and delays already stacking up.

The Loganair 7am flight to Liverpool and the 7.05am service to Manchester have both been cancelled.

Meanwhile, easyJet’s 11.05am flight to London Gatwick and the 11.20am service to Liverpool have been delayed until after 2pm.

More updates are expected as Storm Chandra does its thing, hopefully not for too long
