Three Manxies Honoured by the King

Three Isle of Man locals have received royal recognition from King Charles III in this year’s Birthday Honours, including Media Isle of Man’s very own John Watterson.

John, who’s spent more than 50 years covering island sport and telling the stories of TT heroes, footy stars, and rising athletes, has been awarded an MBE for services to sport.

From writing up the races to leading committees and championing local talent, John’s done it all – and always with integrity, humour, and a big love for the Manx sporting scene.

Also awarded an MBE is the Very Reverend Nigel Godfrey, who’s transformed Cathedral Isle of Man into a welcoming, vibrant space for worship, culture, and community.

He’s been central to making the Cathedral a place for everyone, with new gardens, a choir school, and vital outreach like warm spaces and community meals.

And finally, Karen Norton has received a BEM for her work setting up Café Lingo, a volunteer-led project helping newcomers to the island learn English and feel at home.

She’s helped hundreds of people settle into Manx life with kindness, energy, and endless cups of tea.

The honours were announced tonight (Friday), and we’re dead proud of all three.
