MT Celebrates Best of Manx Community

Manx Telecom has celebrates the work of 21 organisations that contribute to making the island such a great place to live. 

The ‘It’s Our Community Awards’ presentation evening presided over by Gary Lamb, CEO of MT and DfE Minister Tim Johnston also highlighted the pressing issues faced by charities and voluntary organisations.

Gary Lamb, CEO of MT said: ‘Tonight, we come together to celebrate the remarkable individuals and organisations that form the backbone of our community. In a world facing unprecedented challenges, the resilience and dedication displayed by these community champions is truly inspiring.

‘The growing awareness and concern for mental health within our community are evident, and it reinforces the importance of the initiatives supported by the ‘It’s Our Community Awards.’ We stand united in our commitment to fostering a community that is not only safer and happier but also more inclusive.’

Marg

A poignant moment during the evening was the heartfelt tribute to Marg McGee, who died last year, described as the driving force behind the ‘It’s Our Community Scheme’ for many years.

In honour of Marg’s unwavering dedication and profound understanding of the Island’s charities and organisations, MT announced the renaming of the ‘It’s Our Community Awards’ to ‘The Marg McGee Community Awards.’

The official relaunch is scheduled for later in 2024 when the awards reopen for applications with organisations of all sizes encouraged to apply.

Reflecting on the legacy of Marg McGee, Gary said: ‘Marg was a driving force behind these awards, passionately advocating for the smaller charities striving to make a difference. Her absence is deeply felt, but her spirit lives on in the very essence of these awards.

‘The Marg McGee Community Awards will carry forward her legacy, a legacy of community service and dedication to making the Isle of Man a better place for all. We look forward to relaunching these awards later in 2024, and we are committed to ensuring that Marg’s vision continues to shine brightly.’

The following 21 organisations were recognised and celebrated at this years ‘It’s Our Community Awards’ presentation event: Stand Up to Suicide, Manx Mencap, IoM Darts Organisation, Housing Matters, Nobles Bowling Club, Victim Support, Praxis Care, Girlguiding Isle of Man, Ellan Vannin Pickleball, Vagabonds Rugby Club, IOM Orienteering Klubb, Bereaved Survivors of Suicide IoM, Isle of Man Swimming Club, Peel Carnival Committee, Hospice Isle of Man, The Children’s Centre, Age Concern, IOM Skin Cancer, Marown Memorial Playing Fields, Ramsey Hockey Club and Peel Youth Club.
