Norwegian Tall Ship Makes a Splash in Peel (Twice!)

Peel Breakwater had a surprise guest over the weekend when the Norwegian three-mast sailing ship Christian Radich graced us with her presence.

The majestic vessel, a favourite of maritime history buffs, turned heads and had locals reaching for their phones to snap a few pics. You don’t see a ship like that every day!

On her way from Oslo to sunny Spain and Portugal, the Christian Radich made a pit stop in Peel on Saturday.

Built in 1937 and boasting an impressive sailing pedigree (she’s been in films, TV shows, and even joined the U.S. Bicentennial celebrations in 1976), this beauty is no ordinary visitor.

But the best part? She came back!

After setting sail on Sunday morning, she reappeared that same afternoon, looking for shelter behind Peel Hill to escape the gales.

Clearly, even a historic windjammer knows Peel is the best place to take a breather.

Fun fact: The Christian Radich sleeps about 80 people and was last seen in Peel over a decade ago.

If you missed her this time, who knows when she’ll be back – but for now, she’s likely catching some wind in the Bay of Biscay, on her way to more southern adventures.
