All The Flooding Incidents Fire Crews Tackled Today

It was a busy old morning for the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service, with crews from Rushen, Castletown and Douglas called out to a string of flooding incidents caused by the relentless rain.

Things kicked off around 8.15am, when Rushen crews were sent to Erin Lane and Erin Close in Port Erin, where serious flooding was threatening homes.

Firefighters got straight to work with pumps and sandbags to divert water away from properties, later joined by extra teams and kit from Douglas.

They weren’t alone either, Port Erin Commissioners and Manx Utilities staff also mucked in to help deal with the deluge. Proper team effort.

Crews were on scene for roughly four hours before finally getting things under control.

Not long after, at 9.15am, Douglas crews were called to Brown Cow Hill in Santon, where they helped the Department of Infrastructure tackle more flooding.

This was the reason your colleague who lives down south was suspiciously two hours later today.

Several pumps were deployed, and firefighters stayed for about an hour to get the road cleared.

Just a few minutes later, at 9.20am, Castletown Station crews were dispatched to Phildraw Road, Ballasalla, after flooding hit a property there.

Quick work with the pumps meant water was soon diverted away, and the team wrapped up within the hour.

With yet more rain on the way, the fire service is reminding everyone to give their drains and gullies a quick check to make sure they’re clear.
