There’s so much to watch!

The Witcher

Henry Cavill gears up for his last season as Geralt, the witcher. Without tackling the lore of The Witcher universe (because there’s a lot), Geralt is a mutated monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world in which people often prove more wicked than beasts.

Cavill famously sought out this role as a self-proclaimed fan of video games himself, but things seem to have gone south and he is now stepping back from the role, with this being his final season.  The fourth and fifth seasons have been confirmed to star Liam Hemsworth, who will be taking up the mantle.

For me, the first season was, quite naturally, the best but it’s worth giving a go, especially if you’re into the fantasy genre. And yes, obviously my favourite part is Geralt’s friendship with Jaskier, and Jaskier’s playful songs. It’s a very strong cast only made better by Cavill, so we can only hope the show will survive this major change in casting.

Secret Invasion

Already causing quite the stir, Secret Invasion is the continuation of Nick Fury’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This time he’s on his own with no Avengers to help him as Fury learns of the secret invasion of Earth by Skrulls, aliens who can shapeshift. Joining the allies, the agent must race against time to thwart an imminent invasion and save humanity.

It made the news almost instantly when it was revealed the title sequence was created by AI –  something viewers were less than pleased about.

Binge-worthy box sets

Outnumbered

One of my comfort shows! This one speaks for itself really. You’ve probably heard of it and if you have you’ll have heard good things.

Pete and Sue Brockman, played by Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner, struggle to get through the day trying to raise their three rambunctious children in this comedy series. Known for its improvisational dialogue and celebration of life’s more mundane moments, Outnumbered is a triumph of British television.

One of my favourite things is knowing Dennis and Skinner are now together, starting a relationship four years on from the show!

How I Met Your Father

A spin-off from the highly successful How I Met Your Mother, this show tries to emulate everything it got right and improve on everything that went wrong.

How I Met Your Father has generally received very mixed reviews, however by the second season it’s already starting to dial up what it knows works. HIMYM was well-known for its playing with time and structure, something which HIMYF only tried out a handful of times in its first season, but now it’s catching on, and I can only hope for more in the third series.

Otherwise, it has some very likable characters, some great storylines and a lot of potential, which I hope it will continue to deliver on. It’s too early to say whether this one will give us a satisfactory ending, but I don’t see how it could fumble the bag quite as badly as its predecessor…
