Isn’t it supposed to be summer? While it continues to rain outside, give these shows a go if you’re stuck for inspiration.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

The second season of this coming-of-age drama looks to the future as it explores heartbreak and scares, and the effects of these in one’s youth.

Belly is torn between two beaus, but that’s the least of her problems as her mother’s health continues to deterioriate.

And no, despite the likeness, that’s not a young Jude Law…

It will be released on Prime Video on Friday.

Hijack

Idris Elba is the hero as his flight is hijacked during its seven-hour journey to London from Dubai. Corporate negotiator Sam Nelson attempts to use his professional skills to save his 200 fellow passengers.

The thriller promises to be the gripping experience we hope it to be and it looks like Elba puts his all into this moody, intelligent protagonist.

It’s on Apple TV.

Binge-worthy box sets

My Family

A sitcom following the trials and tribulations of a dentist and his family. Ben and Susan Harper are the heads of this household, with kids Lindsay, Nick and Michael all looking for ways to wreak havoc on their sanity.

Michael is a schoolboy who likes to keep his head down, Lindsay is a teenage girl wanting to spread her wings, and Nick is anything but – struggling to get a job and refusing to fly the nest.

I discovered this 2000 release only a couple of weeks ago and have had a great time with the first two seasons. It stars Robert Lindsay, Zoe Wanamaker, Daniela Denby-Ashe, Gabriel Thomson, and Death in Paradise’s very own Kris Marshall.

Give it a go on BBC iPlayer.
