Ready to Get Kinky?

A new show opens at the Gaiety tonight and it promises to be one of the highlights of your year!

Taylorian Productions is back on the world’s greatest stage with its production of Kinky Boots.

A  heartwarming story about acceptance and embracing diversity, its tunes will have you dancing in the aisles (please be careful if you do, no-one likes to see St John Ambulance having to get involved).

The show showcases the power of diversity and inclusivity while breaking down gender stereotypes and promoting individuality. It also highlights the struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community.

Lois Mooney told us about the show’s main characters, Charlie and Lola.

She said: ‘Charlie has been thrown into his fathers place as the owner of the family shoe making business in Northampton, a life which is worlds away from the life he had built for himself in London with long term girlfriend Nicola. Lola on the other hand is a drag queen from London. The pair meet in unlikely circumstances and forge a friendship and working relationship to save Charlies family business. The show follows the unlikely friends journey and all of the highs and lows that come with it.’

Kaysee Craine is making his Taylorian Productions debut as ‘Charlie’ in Kinky Boots. He is fairly new to the theatre world having only ‘caught the acting bug’ a little over a year ago, when he made his first appearance on the Gaiety stage in ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’. Since then Kaysee has been making up for lost time and has appeared in numerous shows including ‘Grease’ in which he played Kineckie for which he received a NODA award for best supporting male in a musical.

Starring opposite as Lola is Nick McLean. Until recently Nick was starring as ‘Boq’ in ‘Wicked’ at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London’s West End. This will be Nick’s second appearance on the Gaiety stage having previously joined the group for its ‘Sunday Night at The Gaiety’ performance a few years ago. Nick brings so much energy to the stage as ‘Lola’ and brings a real truth to the character.

Rounding out the leading trio is Vic Wylde as ‘Lauren’. Vic is absolutely no stranger to the Gaiety stage and most recently covered the leading role of ‘Esmerelda’ in ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’. She will have you in stitches with her portrayal of Lauren as she recounts her ‘history of wrong guys’.

Lois said: ‘Rehearsals are really at their peak at the moment as we are in theatre before opening on Wednesday (tonight!). We are fully moved into theatre and have been incredibly fortunate to have a great crew backstage. Without our backstage crew, dressers and chaperones this show wouldn’t be able to happen. Rehearsals started in March so we have really all become a family.
