Another Three Years of This S4!+
Laxey’s current system has its origins in 1912, hence the Titanic.
Manx Utilities says it will take another three years before raw sewage is no longer pumped into the sea in Laxey.
The authority has provided an update on its plans for Peel and the Laxey/Garff area.
The project has been delayed with negotiations for buying the required land taking longer than Ashley Cole’s transfer to Chelsea.
The MUA said: ‘The Council of Ministers were recently updated with regard to the timeline for delivery of the RSTS2 Projects in order to appraise them and to allow an update to the Island Plan. Given the time it has taken to resolve the land acquisition requirements for both catchments, completion of the Peel scheme is now anticipated by the end of 2025 and Garff in early 2026.
‘Ground investigation contractors will be commencing work next week at various sites to allow the designs to be progressed. Announcements will be made regarding treatment works sites as soon as we possibly can and we thank the people that we have been dealing with for their willingness to engage with us on this important national matter.’
Long-term fans of the Laxey sewage problems will know that currently it is pumped out into the bay after passing through a system devised by the local authority in 1912. What does this have to do with the Titanic you may wonder? Well, to be honest, nothing, I just thought it would break things up a little bit by adding some historical context.
