River Buddies
The newly formed volunteer group River Buddies has held its first event, removing a very strange mixture of items from the riverbank of the River Douglas, close to the Nunnery. Amongst the unusual things found were two supermarket shopping trolleys, parts of a pram and the remains of three tents.
The first event was held in very cold conditions and attracted only a handful of volunteers, but their impact on the area was exceptional, and it has resulted in the area being clear of rubbish for the first time in many years.
‘We only had a small number of volunteers but the impact they made was enormous,’ said Bill Dale, founder of Beach Buddies. ‘It shows that there is a big problem with rubbish being left close to our rivers and we’re keen to go to any accessible river bank on the Island to tackle this issue.’
Further events are planned in the near future and River Buddies is welcoming reports of rubbish on riverbanks and nearby footpaths via email to: beachbuddiesisleofman@gmail.com.
Scam
MT says it is currently aware of a Manx.net email scam doing the rounds.
An email is being sent to customers asking them to click a link to receive pending messages following an upgrade.
This email request is not being sent from Manx.net so be alert to SCAMS and do not click any links or input your details. Always login using official links which you can reach by visiting the MT website and clicking login in the top right menu.
If you receive an email and you suspect that it is a scam, do not click on any links and forward to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service using sers@ocsia.im.
Postal
Isle of Man Post Office can deliver untracked international letters and large letters again. This comes a week after the Royal Mail withdrew the service on January 11 following a ‘cyber incident’. The Post Office will distribute any mail it has withheld during the removal of international post.
A spokesperson said: ‘Untracked international small parcels and all international tracked services will continue to be subject to disruption. We therefore ask our customers to continue to retain these items until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience.’
Netball Bingo
Isle of Man Netball is hosting a bingo night at Cafe Bar Two-Six on February 10 to raise money for Isle Listen. Tickets can be booked by emailing development@netball.im. Prizes include a speed boat, a hang glider, and a pack of butter. – These prizes are not guaranteed.
