Planning
It’s Not Easy Being Green
The new tip will be at Middle Park in Braddan
Douglas Council has sought an alteration to the plans for the new tip in the east of the island.
The new tip, a joint venture between Douglas, Braddan, Onchan, Garff and Santon, is due to be built on Richmond Hill.
One of the conditions imposed on the authorities at the time of approval was that the cladding and roof finish of the building and the gantries must be olive green, this was done to minimise the impact on the surrounding area.
However, while the Eastern District Civic Amenity Site Joint Committee (catchy name) accepts that the building and roof should be green, the authorities have said that keeping the frames and balustrades (the railings) green would be difficult.
The EDCASJC said: ‘The paintwork would constantly be chipped and worn due to members of the public using the balustrades for leverage to dispose of waste, also the skips and heavy machinery used on site would easily cause paintwork damage to the steel frames.’
As a result, the committee wants planners to drop this condition, in essence dear readers,
