Plans for Robot Pharmacy

Rather intriguing plans have been submitted for the island’s first robotic medicine dispensing facility.
The application (23/01468/C) has been lodged by Kingsley Muti Ltd, based on Balthane Industrial Estate.
In the business plan, KM Ltd says it wants to be the ‘largest dispensing pharmacy on the island’ and that all of the investment for the plans is being funded by shareholders and will ‘help grow the pharmaceutical sector and create and stimulate economic activity that will attract others to invest on the island’.
It adds: ‘Based on our research to date the shareholders of KM believe the industry will be lucrative and we have already invested significant time and money into the company. We already do have dispensing redundancy and with the recent demise of Lloyds we have little pharmaceutical security on the Island.
‘With our approved inclusion into the Pharmaceutical List by ManxCare, our contractual duties will include dispensing of ManxCare prescriptions direct to patient. As well as the ability to offer private prescription services to other patients.’
While it is starting on Balthane Industrial Estate, it says that its long-term plan is for KM to be able to ‘dispense pharmaceuticals around the world’.
As part of its wholesale strategy, the company said that medicines resilience on the island is ‘currently poor’ and that through using its warehouse, it will ‘supply to the pharmacies and hospitals’.
