Mark Cavendish is out of the Tour de France after a crash on stage eight.

It means he will retire equal with Eddy Merckx on 34 stage wins.

The Manx Missile, who has said this is his last year as a pro, was denied a win by Jasper Philipsen in Friday’s stage seven.
