Police Appeal for Witnesses After Death
Geoffrey Hughes, 85, was the pedestrian involved in the collision last Friday.
The Police have tonight reissued an appeal for witnesses after a Peel man died following a collision with a car.
Geoffrey Hughes, 85, was the pedestrian involved in the collision last Friday which led to Albany Road being shut for over six hours.
A spokesperson said: ‘We would like to pass our condolences to the family and friends of Mr Hughes. We respectfully request that the public refrain from speculating as to the causation of the collision at this time.’
Inspector Michael Taylor from the Roads Policing Unit added: ‘Enquiries into this investigation are continuing and we thank the public for their assistance. It is clearly evident that Mr Hughes passing will effect the local community as he was well known particularly in Peel and also motorcycle circles.
‘My sincere condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time. This investigation is ongoing and I would urge people to refrain from speculation as to the circumstances of the collision. I can confirm that a person has been interviewed in regards to this matter. I would ask the privacy of all is respected at this time.’
As the investigation continues, Police have asked that any witnesses in the area or any person that may have dash cam travelling along Albany Road or Tynwald Road, Peel between 6.40pm to 6.55pm on Friday November 24 2023 to still come forward and contact any member of the Roads Policing Unit, quoting reference number 97/7506/23.
Earlier today, The White House in Peel paid tribute to Mr Hughes, who was a regular in the pub and was well-known for enjoying a bottle or two of Guinness.
A sidecar competitor, Mr Hughes partnered former TT winner Heinz Luthringshauser in the heyday of the European sidecar scene, with the pair securing a podium finish.
