The A18 Mountain Road between Ramsey and Creg Ny Baa, along with the Tholt Y Will Road from the S Bends near Tholt Y Will Cottage, will stay shut due to snow and ice.

After a yellow weather warning, three gritting teams treated the island’s main routes overnight on Tuesday, starting after 11pm once the rain had stopped.

Despite their efforts, conditions on the Mountain Road worsened, and police closed the route at 6am.

A further yellow warning for ice and frost is in place until Friday afternoon. Overnight salting will focus on lower strategic roads linking the island’s main population centres.

Police have once again asked motorists to drive to the conditions in the coming days.

The closures will remain in place overnight and be reviewed at midday tomorrow to decide if reopening is possible.

Maintenance crews have paused or reduced some scheduled work to concentrate on keeping roads safe.

Highway Services reminded drivers to take extra care, allow more journey time, and watch out for icy patches, especially on untreated roads.
